This occurs in rural areas<\/a> heavily. Due to the large amount land that is physically in between houses, towns and hospitals, people might not have the ability to travel to these places. Additionally, many people living in rural areas are farm workers and do not always have the insurance coverage that pays for treatment.<\/p>\n Licensed Professional Counselor Melissa Ferrigno said, \u201cIn rural areas people might have to drive an hour to the closest therapist. You also might not have a therapist who is trained in what you need, they might just be the closest one around.\u201d<\/p>\n In America, each state has different laws, when it comes to mental health treatment. The differences range from cost, insurance coverage, prescription distribution and refills number of beds for mental health patients in hospitals, and allotted time allowed for mental health patients in emergency rooms. Mental health parity<\/a> describes the equal treatment of mental health conditions and substance use disorders in insurance plans. Currently in America, each state has the power to create these parity laws, so not all are created equal. <\/p>\n One out of five adults<\/a> with a mental illness reported that they were not able to receive the treatment they needed. Some of those barriers include gender<\/a>, sexual orientation<\/a>, race<\/a> and ethnicity<\/a>, geography<\/a> and income<\/a>. Resources are not consistently available for a number of reasons.
